Like many things in life, pit bulls are a very misunderstood breed. So I wanted to put together a short blog post showing the love between 11-day-old baby Ella, and 5 year old pit bull, Stella. I am a huge pit bull lover, so I get frustrated by how they are perceived. Not many people know that the breed used to be known as the “nanny dog.” Unfortunately, our society, pop-culture, and media has cast this inherently gentle breed as a violent and dangerous animal.
Take a look at what the United Kennel Club states, “The APBT (American Pit Bull Terrier) is not the best choice for a guard dog since they are extremely friendly, even with strangers. Aggressive behavior toward humans is uncharacteristic of the breed and highly undesirable. This breed does very well in performance events because of its high level of intelligence and its willingness to work.”.
In January, 2015, Stella (along with 19 other dogs) was rescued by the ASPCA and the NYPD, from a dog fighting operation in Queens, New York. That October, Kate and Jesse adopted Stella from the Upper East Side ASPCA. Check out her short story, A Lover, Not A Fighter: Stella’s Happy Tail.
Three years later, Kate and Jesse added an adorable addition to their little family, Ella! And guess what? Stella is very sweet, gentle and protective of her. Take a look at their precious photos together.
